There are a plethora of new electric trucks about to hit the market and while models like the Ford F-150 Lightning have a good amount of driving range, it’s a different story when towing a trailer. The range of electric trucks drop significantly when fully loaded a payload or towing something behind it. Here’s where the 2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger plug-in hybrid comes in, since it has up to 145 miles of EV range and then the gas engine kicks in to give the truck a total of 690 miles of range.
The 1500 Ramcharger is the truck for buyers that aren’t quite ready to make the jump to the fully electric Ram 1500 REV. While most plug-in hybrids feature a gas engine that powers the wheels when the battery is depleted, the engine in the 1500 Ramcharger PHEV only supplies electricity to charge the battery. The Pentastar 3.6-liter V6 charges the large 70.8-kWh battery pack. When the battery is depleted to a certain percentage, (not fully depleted) the gas engine kicks on to keep you moving down the road.
The powertrain generates a combined 663 horsepower and 615 pound-feet of torque thanks to its front and rear electric motors. It has a 0-60 mph time of of 4.4 seconds. When extra power or traction aren’t needed, the front motor disconnects from the axle to improve efficiency and the rear axle has a electronic locking differential.
The Ramcharger is based on a 400-volt architecture, which can accept charging rates up to 145 kW. Up to 50 miles of range can be added in 10 minutes. It also features bi-directional capabilities that supplies up to a 7.2-kW max output to power accessories, your home or even another EV.
