The 2023 Toyota Sienna stands out as an excellent choice for families in search of a reliable and spacious minivan. Competing with models like the Honda Odyssey, Chrysler Pacifica, and Kia Carnival, the Sienna boasts a standard hybrid powertrain that offers an economical, if not particularly speedy, driving experience. It provides a comfortable ride, spacious seating, and the option for all-wheel drive.

2023 Toyota Sienna Review

It’s available in seven- or eight-passenger configurations. The Sienna exhibits a sleek, aerodynamic exterior and a modern and spacious interior. The lineup ranges from the basic LE to the mainstream XLE, slightly sporty XSE, somewhat luxurious Limited, and the indulgent Platinum trims. There’s also the Wilderness trim, positioned above the XLE, that features an elevated suspension for those buyers that want to tackle some light trails.

Driving the Sienna is a balanced experience with responsive handling and a smooth ride, although it may lack in speed. All-wheel drive is an option across the range, and the Woodland trim comes standard with it. The Sienna’s all-wheel-drive system includes a second electric motor on the rear axle, providing extra traction when needed.

The Sienna is powered by a hybrid powertrain that feaures a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder and electric motor to generate a combined 245 hp. That’s less power than you’ll find with the Carnival or Odyssey, but the Sienna has more than enough power for most minivan drivers. The powertrain can get a bit loud when pushed hard, but around town it’s moderately quite with enough power to get you around. We do wish Toyota would release a plug-in hybrid version, which would rival the Chrysler Pacifica plug-in hybrid.

2023 Toyota Sienna Review

In terms of efficiency, the 2023 Sienna is the greenest non-plug minivan available. The front-wheel drive Sienna has a 36 mpg combined rating, while the all-wheel drive version is slightly less efficient at 35 mpg.

Inside, the Sienna has a modern dashboard, but it’s missing Toyota’s latest infotainment system. Available in seven- or eight-passenger configurations, it provides a flexible interior design with thoughtful details. The front seats are comfortable, with heating options, and the rear sliding doors can open with a foot gesture on certain trims. The third row also offers ample legroom for taller passengers.

While the Sienna is well-equipped with features, it tends to be pricier than some rivals. The base LE is priced at $38,280 and comes with power sliding doors, a 9.0-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the essential safety features. As you move up the trim levels, the XLE adds synthetic leather and a sunroof, while the Limited includes leather seats, a navigation system, JBL speakers, and a unique intercom system. The top-tier Platinum trim is priced at $53,740.

At the end of the day the 2023 Toyota Sienna distinguishes itself in the minivan category with its hybrid powertrain, optional all-wheel drive, and spacious interior.
